If you’re planning an intimate Quadra Island celebration, this Taku Resort wedding guide will walk you through everything you need to know to bring your vision to life. With its breathtaking ocean views, lush surroundings, and intimate ambiance, it’s no wonder this hidden gem has become a sought-after destination for tying the knot! In this comprehensive guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know to plan your perfect wedding at Taku Resort & Marina, ensuring your special day is seamless and memorable.
Taku Resort & Marina is a stunning oceanfront resort nestled on the eastern coastline of Quadra Island. For generations, the people of the Pacific Northwest Tlingit tribe celebrated the feeling of peace and togetherness found at the nesting sites of birds. They held a deep reverence for the contrast between human connection and nature found at these places and named them “Taku”.
The resort offers a place of comfort and relaxation amongst the serene natural beauty of the island, along with an abundance of activities, cozy accommodations, and friendly resort staff.
Taku Resort & Marina is only a 10-minute drive from the Quathiaski Cove ferry terminal. It’s tucked into the peaceful Drew Harbour. Views of Rebecca Spit Marina Provincial Park sit just across the water, followed by Cortes Island and the majestic coastal mountains of mainland BC. It is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle (if you can even call it that!) of Vancouver Island that anyone can enjoy.
Located just off the shores of Vancouver Island, Quadra Island is a quick and scenic ferry ride from Campbell River. In the summer months, the vehicle ferry operates every half hour from 6:30am-10:30pm and takes only 10 minutes. More sailing information can be found on the BC Ferries website.
For those arriving by private boat, Taku offers plenty of space at the marina and in the harbour.
A float plane is also an option, which offers the fastest routes from both Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
There are plenty of different route options when getting to Quadra Island, but the most common is as follows:

1 Hr 45 min
Drive from Nanaimo to Campbell River

It’s not hard to imagine why Taku Resort & Marina is such a wonderful venue for your Quadra Island destination wedding, but in case you need a little convincing, let’s dive into all the best features of Take that make it an incredible destination on Quadra.
Taku offers stunning, convenient and unique wedding features, such as:
Depending on your vision, as well as the number of guests attending, you do have a few different options for the ceremony
You can hold your ceremony on the grassy slope along the rocky coastline that looks out onto the gorgeous views of the inlet. This ceremony location can accommodate up to 75 people and can be arranged to your liking. Walk down the fern scattered pathway towards your guests or from one of the cozy A-frame cabins – the option is yours!
The second ceremony option is a little more unique and intimate. Take your vows to the grassy rooftop of the resort and surround yourself amongst the beautiful cedars and fir trees. This location would allow only a small party of roughly 15 people.
The entire resort grounds can be used for beautiful, unique couples portraits and should be fully taken advantage of!
After the ceremony, you have the option to use the sportspace above the resort – take a fun, creative approach to your couples portraits (you won’t regret it!)
Or take a more traditional approach by having your portraits done on the beach with breathtaking views of the inlet. You might even be able to catch the alpine glow on the coastal mountains at sundown or a sea creature friend in the bay!
Taku offers a wide range of accommodation options for you and your guests from beach house suites, to cozy cabins, and even camping and RV spots.
Lower & Upper Beach House
The largest of the accommodations, the Beach House is just steps away from the shoreline of Drew Harbour, with full amenities, breathtaking views, large decks, and spacious bedrooms. You can stay in one of two Beach House suites — upper or lower — each sleeping up to four guests.
Beachfront Cabins
Classic, cozy A-frame style cabins nestled among the cedar trees on Taku’s beachfront. These cabins offer a kitchen, living room, woodburning fireplace, loft and patio, and can sleep either 4 or 8 people. They are also the pet friendly option at the resort (which we love, of course!)
Terrace Suites
Overlooking the beach and marina, the Terrace Suites offer different sizes for different group needs. Each suite comes with a kitchen, living room, patio with ocean view, and bbq, and sleeps up to 6 people. They are not pet friendly.
Camping & RV
An outdoor space in the forested area of the resort, camping and RV spots are available in private lots with access to all of the resort amenities including showers and laundry facilities. Pet friendly as well!
If you choose to not stay at the resort, there are plenty of airbnb, resort, and camping options on Quadra Island within a short drive away from Taku.
Here you can find some common questions about getting married at Taku Resort & Marina – a little extra guidance when planning your dream destination wedding on Quadra Island!
The best time to get married on Quadra Island depends on your wedding vision, budget, and travel plans.
The most popular time for weddings on Vancouver Island and the surrounding Gulf Islands are June-September due to the warm, and (mostly) sunny weather. The northern Gulf Islands (such as Quadra) can experience cooler temperatures and a little more rain, but the mid summer months will still prove to be a beautiful time to get married.
If you are looking for a moody, coastal vibe for your wedding, the off season in fall and early spring can be a great option with dramatic weather, dense fog, and rainfall. I absolutely love the northern coast of Vancouver Island this time of year and it would make for a beautiful setting for a wedding. Reach out to the resort to see what kind of promotions they may offer during the off season.
Indeed! You can rent out the entire resort for you and your guests, making it feel like your own private island for your wedding. Guests can stay in the abundance of accommodation options and the resort will have everything you need to plan your dream wedding.
You can have up to 75 guests for your Taku Resort Wedding on Quadra Island.
You can search for Quadra Island officiants through the BC Marriage Commissioners website here. There are usually 2-3 options for commissioners based on or around Quadra Island and can be reached by phone or email. The fee for hiring a commissioner for a base civil marriage is $75 (plus tax). There may be additional fees for travel or time spent over the one hour included in the ceremony.
Now, it’s time to find somebody to document your incredible wedding at Taku Resort – and I’d absolutely love to be considered! One thing you must know about me is just how much I adore traveling around Vancouver Island & the Gulf Islands and everything about getting married here, especially when it involves a stunning beachfront wedding with views of the coastal mountains. Take a look at the different wedding & elopement packages I offer here, and if you feel like we’d be an amazing fit for your dream elopement or wedding at the resort, you can reach out to me here!
